The latest instalment from the Bridget Jones franchise has gone down a treat in Irish cinemas, breaking sales records in its first week of its release.
Arriving on Valentine's Day this year, Bridget Jones: Mad About A Boy, which is the fourth movie from the franchise, starring Renée Zellweger, made €763,000 in its first weekend of viewing. It was also reported that the movie made €1.6million in its first week.
Mad About A Boy looks set to be the highest grossing movie in the Irish box office this year.
Regarding this success, Group sales director at cinema advertising company, Pearl & Dean Ireland, Cassandra Joyce, said: "It's early days, but there's no doubt that Mad About The Boy is already a big contender to be the box office hit of 2025 in Irish cinemas".
She added: "If current trends continue, there's every chance it could go on to become the most successful romantic comedy ever released in this country".
News of this comes after the movie also broke the record for highest-ever opening for a romantic comedy in the UK and Ireland. More on this here.
