British actor Timothy West, has died aged 90, his family have confirmed.
West was known for so many roles in television and in theatre, starring in TV shows such as Not Going Out, as well as soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders.
Timothy West was married to actress Prunella Scales, who played Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. The couple were married for more than 60 years, tying the knot in 1963. They went on to have two sons, actor Samuel West and Joseph West.
Timothy West was previously married to actor Jacqueline Boyer from 1956 to 1961. They had a daughter, Juliet West.
Releasing a statement, Timothy West's children Juliet, Samuel and Joseph confirmed that their father died peacefully in his sleep.
"After a long and extraordinary life on and on the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90-years old", they said. "Tim was with friends and family at the end".
"He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly".
They added: "We would like to thank the incredible NHS staff at St George's Hospital, Tooting and at Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days".
The actor played ruthless businessman Bradley Hardacre in Brass from 1982 to 1984, before reprising the role for a third series in 1990.
He also played Geoffrey, father of Lucy Adams who was played by Sally Bretton in Not Going Out.
West also starred in Coronation Street and EastEnders, playing Eric Babbage on the cobbles for seven episodes in 2013, and Stan Carter in Albert Square from 2014 to 2015.
His career also saw him play British prime minister Winston Churchill three times, including Churchill and the Generals (1979), The Last Bastion (1984), and Hiroshima (1995). He also performed Shakespeare, playing Lear in 2002 and 2016.
West also played Private Godfrey in Dad's Army: The Lost Episodes, a recreation of three missing episodes of the BBC comedy Dad’s Army.
