Spears has not released new material since her 2016 album "Glory". She has since spent the last few years stepping up her legal battle to end her conservatorship with her father Jamie Spears which was in place since 2008.
Since then, Spears has spoken about retiring and making new music.
Taking to Instagram recently, Spears had said that her treatment by her family had led her to question her faith and she had “asked for 13 years to perform new songs and remixes of my old songs”, only to be told no.
Spears also claimed that she was only allowed two months holiday during her four year Las Vegas residency.
Spears wrote, “I knew exactly what I wanted my fans to see and it didn’t make sense how network television shows are showcasing my music with remixes of all of my music …. Yet the person who owns the music is told no !!!!".
“They even gave remixes to my sister but why was I always told no?”, she added.
She continued, “So much wasted time to only embarrass and humiliate me and I guess it seems odd to most now why I don’t even do my music anymore… that’s just the surface issues. People have no idea the awful things that were done to me personally".
Spears stated that "not doing my music anymore" was her way of saying "f**k you" to those family members who she felt wronged her.
She added that her target for 2022 is “push myself a bit more and do things that scare me”.
