Donning a beaded gown on stage, Celine Dion delivered a live performance of Edith Piaf's track 'L'Hymme A L'Amour'. This was the singer's first on stage performance since her Stiff Person syndrome diagnosis in 2022.

Edith Piaf was also renowned for her hit French single 'Je Ne Regrette Rien'.

Celine Dion has not been seen on stage since she cancelled her Las Vegas residency amid health concerns in 2021, before her SPS diagnosis in December 2022 forced her to pull the plug on her Courage World Tour.

Last night, Celine Dion took to the stage at the Eiffel Tower, with an estimated one billion people watched the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"supreme honour"

Following this spectacular performance in Paris, Celine called the live performance a "supreme honour", an event which saw almost 10,500 athletes sail across the iconic Seine river.

"I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year", Dion said. "I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organising committee to sing such a special French song-a song to honour the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre".

Dion also added that she has  "always felt a very special connection" with French people and their music.

She added: "I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and on such a momentous occasion remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth - Paris".

The My Heart Will Go On singer noted that she "brushed up on some old skills" and "rehearsed tirelessly to study a joyful French dance" to go with her performance.

"I bet you didn't know I used to dance at a '60s French party on the lower east side when I was first starting out".
