In August 2014, the singer's home in Barkshire was raided by police, following allegations of historical sexual abuse against him. Richard who has denied these claims, was never arrested or charged for any offences.

Four years later, Richard won damages in court from the BBC and South Yorkshire Police for breaching his privacy during the original search. Prosecutors had confirmed that no charges would be brought against the singer in 2016.

Speaking recentlty, Cliff Richard has said that false accusations can "comepletely destroy you", calling the internet a "disaster area for most people now".

He also added that his name will "forever" be associated with "the man accused of the dastardly deed".  "You can't trust anybody anymore", he added.

Richard revealed that there were even moments, where he would wake up with racing pulses, and afraid that he was "going to die of a heart attack".

"I can’t express it strongly enough to know what it’s like to be an innocent man and also know that the person that accused you has anonymity in perpetuity", he continued. "I’m past that terrible time but will I ever get over it? The answer is no".

Sir Cliff Richard made these comments at the House of Lords on Wednesday, where he was backing the campaign to change the law, so suspects can have anonymity unless they are charged.
