Dario G Star Paul Spencer Dies Aged 53 Following Cancer Diagnosis

Tributes have been paid to Dario G star Paul Spencer, who passed away aged 53 following a cancer diagnosis.

Spencer, a music producer who was known for hits such 'Carnaval De Paris', and 'Sunchyme', was diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer in 2023.

His death was confirmed by his family, who released his statement.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today", they said. "He was positive until the end but this was one battle he could not fight anymore. He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people". 

"He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved him. Shine bright our big star". 

Dario G was originally a music trio which included Spencer alongside fellow DJs Stephen Spencer (no relation), and Scott Rosser. The group were named after the then Crewe Alexander FC manager Dario Gradi.

The group's hit 'Sunchyme' was released in 1997, reaching number two behind Elton John's Candle In The Wind in the UK singles chart.

A year later, the group released Carnaval De Paris, the soundtrack for the 1998 World Cup, which peaked at number 5 in the UK singles chart.

Following the sad news regarding Spencer's passing, several musicians have paid tributes to him, with many commenting under the Instagram post (above).

"He will be missed greatly. Sending love to his family, rest in peace buddy". 

Electronic duo Phats and Small added: "Lost for words. One of the good guys, you'll be missed brother". 

"Sending love and sincere condolences to his friends and family", British DJ and radio presenters MistaJam wrote. "Rest in Peace, thank you for the music". 

Paul Spencer who confirmed his cancer diagnosis last year, had posted regular updates regarding his health on Instagram.
