Demi Moore revealed that she was once referred to as a "popcorn actress", as she accepted her Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture/Musical or Comedy for her role in body horror, The Substance.

In her acceptance speech, Moore said that it was "the first time I've ever won anything as an actor", which was a shock to her audience, given her star-studded career.

Moore prevailed in a category which also included fellow nominees Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, and Challengers' Zendaya.

"popcorn actress"

Speaking to the audience after receiving her award, Demi Moore revealed that she was even called a "popcorn actress" by one producer.

"Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a 'popcorn actress.' At that time, I made that mean that this wasn't something I was allowed to have.' Holding her award tight she continued by stating how this meant 'I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but I couldn't be acknowledged. I bought in, and I believe that", she said.

Moore admitted that this phrase had plagued her psyche for many years, saying that it "corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete. Maybe I'd done what I was supposed to do".

However, when she was offered the role in The Substance, Moore felt like she was being told by the universe that: "You're not done".

Closing out her speech, Demi Moore signed off with some pearls of wisdom.

"I'll just leave you with one thing that I think this movie is imparting...In those moments, when we don't think we're smart enough, or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough or basically just not enough...I had a woman say to me 'Just know, you will never be enough. But you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick", she said.

The actress also called her Golden Globe triumph: "a reminder that I do belong".
