Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson is to star in an upcoming Broadway musical, Irishtown.

Irishtown, looks at the story of a Dublin-based theatre company, that begins rehearsals for their new play, when they discover that the playwright has made the story too dark and experimental, lacking an Irish identity. This forces the company to take matters into their own hands, leading to chaotic results.

Written by Ciara Elizabeth Smyth, the show will play a limited run of shows through May 2025, and will see Jackson star alongside Grey's Anatomy's Kate Burton. It will make its world premiere this Spring at the Irish Repertory Theatre's Francis J Greenburger Mainstage, beginning on April 2, ahead of its opening night on April 13.

Directed by Nicola Murphy Dubey, Irishtown will also feature Angela Reed (Harry Potter & Cursed Child), as well as Purgatory star Kevin Oliver Lynch, and will include voiceover work from Roger Clark.

On more personal news, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and her partner Denis Sulta, aka Hector Babour, recently announced their engagement, with the couple currently planning their wedding.

"We’re planning our wedding at the moment. I have a ginormous family. He’s so down for a big wedding, but I don’t want to spend the day feeling anxious that I haven’t got round to everybody", Jackson said in a recent interview.

On their romance, she added: "I love being at home with Hector. We love chilling, and not being at the centre of cool parties – watching Moana with him makes me so happy".
