Van Dyke took home the award for Best Guest Performer In A Daytime Drama Series for his role on Days Of Our Lives as Timothy Robicheaux.

He received a standing ovation as he made his way to the stage with his cane. “I don’t believe it, I feel like a spy from night-time television” He jokes during his acceptance speech. Van Dyke shared the stage with his 52-year-old wife Arlene Silver. I brought this lady up because she, by trouble and strife, is the love of my life, but because she was in the show - she played the cop who arrested me.”

The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star was not afraid to make a few jokes about his age, saying “If I had known I would have lived this long I would’ve taken better care of myself.” He chalks his long and healthy life up to staying active in his old age.

Concluding his Speech Van Dyke nods towards his eight decades of work in the entertainment industry, marking how it all began with him making a show for fun with his friend, only for it to “snowball into this.”

The Mary Poppins icon had some tough competition including last year’s winner Alley Milles (as Heather Webber on General Hospital), Ashley Jones (as Dr Bridget Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful), Australian star Guy Pearce (as Mike Young on Neighbours), and Linden Ashby (as Cameron Kirsten on The Young and the Restless).

Van Dyke has previously won four primetime Emmys, three of which he won in the 1960s for the iconic Dick Van Dyke Show.

Van Dykes wife of 12 years held his trophy as the Hollywood Hall of Famer delivered his speech. The couple tied the knot in 2012 following the death of his long-time partner Michelle Triola Marvin in 2009. They share a whopping age gap of 46 years.

Van Dyke was not the only winner of the night. General Hospital won four of its total 11 nominations that night, including its fourth consecutive win for best Daytime Drama Series. General Hospital was not the only repeat winners as The Kelly Clarkson Show scored its fourth consecutive win of the best Daytime Take Show award.
