Ed Sheeran has denied rumours that he attended J.K Rowling's New Year's Eve party.

The singer denied these claims that he spent New Year's Eve with the famous author, following previous reports that he and other household names including former James Bond star Daniel Craig, along with members of U2 and The Pretenders, had spent NYE at Rowling's home in Perth and Kinross, Scotland.

These reports come as Harry Potter author Rowling, faced huge criticism following comments she made on trans rights, having previously stated that "there are no trans kids".

Taking to Instagram, Ed Sheeran responded to claims that he attended the NYE bash, following a post from India Willoughby, a broadcaster and journalist.

"Respectfully, India Willoughby, and any other journalist who has reported both these stories, neither are true", Sheeran wrote. "I spent New Years with my friends and family".

"divisive and damaging"

Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran also blasted claims that he "brought joy" to injured Israeli Defence Forces soldiers to one of his concerts.

"The story about wounded soldiers at my show, was a charity that sourced tickets to my show in Cyprus last year, which was a large scale public concert", Sheeran explained. "This kind of reporting is divisive and damaging, please research before you post things".

Responding to this, India tweeted: "Hi @edsheeran- this is great to hear. I used the word 'reportedly' about JK Rowling's NYE party, because it was widely reported by UK and international media at the time".

"I also reached out directly to you in the first wk (sic) of Jan via Twitter to ask if the story was correct - but no reply. Delighted to hear you didn't go!".

Back in December, Ed Sheeran revealed that he has already completed work on a new album.

“It feels like I’m getting back into big pop for the first time in a long time.  It’s quite exciting", Sheeran said of this prospective new album. More on this here.
