George Michael passed away in December 2016, and Elton John paid tribute a man he described as “one of Britain’s most fantastic singers, songwriters, and artist”.
Elton John told the audience, “He was my friend, an inspiration, and today would have been his 60th birthday – I want to dedicate this song to his memory, and all the music he left us with which is so gorgeous".
Following this, Elton John performed the track 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', a track which he famously duetted with Michael in the 1990s.
Originally written by Elton John and Bernie Taupan in 1974, the version which featured George Michael, scored a UK Number One in 1991, and top spot in the US a year later.
Elton John concluded the Worthy Farm Festival, as well as his 'Farewell Yello Brick Road' Tour, as he plans to spend more time with his family.
