Elton John's Broadway musical has been cancelled, less than a week after it launched.
The show which was written by the musician, and included lyrics written by Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears, was axed, amid low ticket sales and poor early reviews.
It was based on televangelist Tammy Faye Messner's life story, and had originally launched on 14 November.
Despite performing well as London's West End, Tammy Faye: A New Musical did not perform well at its new location, with producers confirming a final curtain call on 8 December.
According to a source, poor early reviews of the musical "killed it", and left those in the industry assuming that it was always "at risk of not working".
The musical was described as "strangely bland", by The New York Times, while Variety called it a "misguided West End import".
The source also revealed that the show had failed to connect with the New York audience.
"It was always going to be difficult, even the writers feared the storyline didn't translate for the audience," they said. "The 1700-capacity venue was only selling 300 tickets a night. This is not exactly great for Elton".
