The entertainment world has reacted to the news that a ceasefire has been agreed between Israel and Palestine in Gaza.
This ceasefire was confirmed by President Joe Biden and several other political leaders yesterday, which is to last for 42 days and will see the withdrawal of Israeli forces in Palestine, and all remaining hostages released.
The United Nations also said that this will accelerate the delivery of aid to Palestinians. More on this here.
Reacting to this news, several household names from the world of showbusiness took to social media.
Model Bella Hadid, who is of Palestinian descent, has always been outspoken in her calls for the war to end. She shared a clip of Palestinians celebrating the deal on her Instagram stories.
“My heart is in pieces”, she said. “There’s just so much to say”.
Actress Melissa Barrera, who was famously dropped by the Scream film franchise due to her support of Palestine on social media, shared several emojis, expressing her relief that a ceasefire had been agreed.
She also added the words: "Until liberation".
Elsewhere, rapper Macklemore who had also supported Palestine with the release of singles, 'Hind's Hell', and 'Hind's Hall 2', also expressed his delight on Instagram, writing: “Tears….CEASEFIRE!!! FREE PALESTINE”. See that post in full here.
Singer Kehlani did refer to the anxieties and slight uncertainty surrounding this deal, which she called a part of "first steps".
She said: “I know we all feel still deeply incredibly worried and mistrusting of the regime and its potentials, but also rn, imma cry at all the Gazan joy and relief".
These sentiments were also shared by singer Paloma Faith, who said that she's "almost sad and scared about the ceasefire now".
“It worries me what they will do before the ceasefire and the aftermath and trauma endured by all those families who have witnessed unspeakable things, been tortured, lost family members, all the orphaned children, the childless parents, the PTSD they will live with forever,”, she wrote. “No where to live, no where to go, a wasteland…. It’s unthinkable and unforgivable".
Meanwhile, Irish rap trio KNEECAP added that “we must not forget what Israel has done”.
“They need to be sanctioned and their leadership arrested and prosecuted,” they wrote. “They’ve murdered 100,000 people, mostly kids, and left Gaza as an unliveable wasteland".
