Irish actor Hewson whose father is U2 frontman Bono , said that life as a young woman in Hollywood has changed in the last few years.
Hewson also revealed that women were now “allowed” to say that they had “bad experiences”, having previously been told to “be grateful, don’t complain”.
“What has changed is that you’re allowed to now say that you had a bad experience”, Hewson stated. “Before it was, ‘Be grateful, don’t complain, this is what it’s like if you want to be a star’”.
She also added: “At least now, even if people want to or not, they kind of have to respond, or they get cancelled. It gives us power”.
Looking ahead, Eve Hewson is to star in Netflix thriller, The Perfect Couple.
Hewson who has starred in Papillon, Bridge of Spies and Robin Hood, is to play free spirited bride to be, who marries into a wealthy, upper class family. The night before the wedding, Amelia’s best friend is found dead, with everyone a potential murder suspect.
The actress will feature alongside Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning in this series, directed by Elin Hilderbrand.
“[It was] a blast, like being at summer camp”, the daughter of U2 frontman Bono said. “You don’t usually have so many people on set your own age”.
Hewson is also set to feature in a star studded line up for an as yet unnamed Netflix movie, directed by Noah Baumbach, starring George Clooney, Greta Gerwig, Isla Fisher, Adam Sandler, and Billy Cruddup.
The actor revealed that neither she nor fellow actors know about the plot as of yet.
“I haven’t read the script. He only gave us our scenes. It’s actually kind of cool”, she explained. “The characters sort of live in their own world. They all relate to George Clooney. But no-one really sees each other”.
Elsewhere, Eve Hewson spoke about her famous family, including her father Bono, as well as her brother Elijah Hewson, lead singer of Irish rock band Inhaler.
While initially being keen on a music career, Hewson said that acting “the only thing I was good at”, and she first thought she was “going to be Charli XCX”.
Eve Hewson also revealed that her family even formed a family band, after moving back to Dublin during lockdown.
“We have a studio at the end of [my parents’] garden, where [we] usually end up, in the middle of the night, writing stupid songs”, she revealed. “I actually got kicked out of the family band, for being too enthusiastic”.
She also said that her father did not make the band as he was “asleep by 10pm every night”.
On allegations of being a product of nepotism, Hewson added that all she could do was “crack a joke and move on”.
She also said that one of her goals last year was to “be successful enough to get recognised as a nepo baby”.
The Perfect Couple will premiere on Netflix on September 5.
