Having intially been scheduled to be released on 7 April that year, the film has been pushed back to coincide with the year's summer blockbuster season. An untitled animation will fill the Universal's April slot.
This film will be released in the same month as Disney's live adaption of The Little Mermaid and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
Speculation continues to circulate as to whether Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will return to this franchise, following the recent ongoing feud between him and Vin Diesal.
Diesal took to Instagram to urge Johnson to “rise to the occasion and fulfil [his] destiny". He also stated that Johnson must "show up" to reprise his role as Hobbs as he had a “a very important role to play” as “Hobbs can’t be played by no other”.
