In footage which was taken directly after the incident, Flintoff outlined the extend of his injuries, including serious facial injuries. He also sustained several broken ribs.
The crash took place while Flintoff was filming Top Gear at Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey in December 2022.
In his latest documentary, Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams which aired on BBC One yesterday, the presenter showed fans the extend of the damage suffered just over a week after the accident.
"Genuinely should not be here after what happened", Flintoff said. "This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already".
"Got to look at the positive side, I'm still here, I've got another chance. I've got a go at it... a second go".
Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams shows Flintoff as a retired cricketer coaching a group of teenagers from difficult backgrounds. Seven months after this incident, further footage shows the former cricketer considering if he was able to travel to India with a team of teenagers.
In this footage, Flintoff spoke about his struggles with anxiety, including having nightmares and flashbacks from this crash.
"I thought I could just shake it off," he said. "I wanted to shake it off and say 'here I am, I'm alright'. But it's not been a case of that, it's been a lot harder than I thought".
He continued: "As much as I wanted to go out and do things, I have just not been able to".
"I don't want to sit here and feel sorry for myself. I don't want sympathy, but it's going from being in here for seven months really and then going to India for two and a half weeks".
This trip to India was delayed for over a year due to Flintoff's crash. Despite this, he managed to make the trip with the team.
Following this crash, the BBC confirmed they had agreed a financial settlement with Flintoff, reportedly worth £9 million.
