In 2018, the actor who played Chandler Bing in the sitcom, secretly spent two weeks in a coma and a further 5 months in hospital fighting for his life.  He had 14 stomach surgeries and used a colostomy bag for 9 months.  His family were told he had a 2% chance of survival because of his addiction.

Matthew first started taking opioids in 1997 as pain relief after a jet-ski accident but became reliant on them long after he had recovered from his injury.  He noted he was taking 55 tablets a dat whilst filming "Friends" and can't remember a 3 year period on the show.  His weight had also dropped to 9 stone and he would drink a litre of vodka per day.

Perry wanted to wait until now to tell his story - and to be sure he was "safely sober of alcohol and drugs".  His upcoming memoir is called "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing".
