Emma Heming Willis, has said that the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa highlight the struggles that carers can have.
Heming is caring for her husband, Bruce Willis, after the actor was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2022. She said that the tragic story of Hackman and Arakawa highlights that "caregivers need care too".
Double Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead, along with their dog at their home in New Mexico last month (February 26). It was later ruled that Hackman died of heart disease a week after Arakawa' passed away. She died of a rare infectious disease. More on this here.
In an Instagram post which read the caption: "Caregivers need care too. Period. Full stop", Emma Heming Willis, has said that there is "some learning in this story" regarding the deaths of Hackman and Arakawa.
"So this is not something I would normally comment on, but I do really believe that there is some learning in this story, in regards to this tragic passing of Mr and Mrs Hackman", Hemming wrote. "It’s just made me think of this broader story, and that is that caregivers need care too, and that they are vital, and that it is so important that we show up for them so that they can continue to show up for their person".
"I think that there’s this common misconception that like caregivers, they got it figured out, they got it covered, they’re good", she added. "I don’t subscribe to that, I think that we need to be showing up for them so that they can continue to show up for their person".
Emma Heming Willis has been caring for her husband Bruce Willis since his diagnosis in 2022.
