The band who consisted of Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and the late Sarah Harding, won the reality TV series Popstars: The Rivals in 2003, before releasing their debut album, 'Sound Of The Underground' that same year.

The album reached number 2 in the UK Album Chart, and included their number one single of the same name.

In 2020, bandmember Sarah Harding passed away from cancer aged 39. Last December, Girls Aloud released a limited edition 7 inch vinyl of 'Sound Of The Underground', with proceeds going to the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal.
