While on stage, Healy made a speech to the crowd about homosexuality, which is illegal in Malaysia. The singer also went on to kiss the band's bassist Ross McDonald, actions which have sparked a major feud between loyal fans of The 1975 and Malaysian citizens.

Many are disappointed with Healy's conduct, feeling that he has possibly made things harder for the LGBTQ Community in the country.

This show marked the 1975's second performance at the festival, having previously performed there in 2016. It was also celebrating the festival's 10th anniversary.
