This was confirmed by the Recording Academy, which has stated that while artists can use it as an aid, the human contribution must be the most significant part.

According to a description of this measure means that, “Only human creators are eligible to be submitted for consideration for, nominated for, or win a Grammy Award. A work that contains no human authorship is not eligible in any Categories".

However, the Academy have stated that while the use of AI is allowed, “The human authorship component of the work submitted must be meaningful and more than de minimis.” This means that artists may use AI as an aid but the human contribution must be the most significant".

There are no further details on how the Academy intends to show how AI is used, or what is viewed as “more than de minimis” regarding this human contribution.

This move comes amid an increase in conversations regarding the use and ethics of AI in music.
