In a career spanning five decades, Mirren has played a variety of roles from the 1980 film The Long Good Friday which saw her play a gangster's girlfriend and Elizabeth II in The Queen in 2006, a role which earned her an Oscar, Bafta and SAG Award.
The Oscar winning actress will be awarded this prestigious prize at the SAG's annual ceremony this Sunday at Santa Monica, Los Angeles. The award will be presented by Oscar winner Kate Winslet, who co-starred alongside Mirren in Collateral Beauty.
"I didn’t quite grasp how big a deal it was", Mirren told Lorraine. "It’s a funny moment that, of course, there’s a great feeling of pride and: ‘Wow, me? Really?’.
"And then, of course, there’s a slight sting in the tail as well… and you are in a way coming to the end of the road".
Mirren is also the most decorated actress at the SAG awards, with 13 nominations and 5 wins. She was also made a dame in the Queen's New Year's Honours List in 2003 for her services to drama.
Her upcoming Lifetime Achievement has allowed her to have an "interesting moment for reflection".
She also added that she also considered, "‘Do I deserve this? How did I get here? How did that happen? Was it luck or was it agency on my part?'".
Helen Mirren will add her name to a star studded list of recipients of this award, including Gene Kelly, Robert De Nero, Julie Andrews, and Elizabeth Taylor.
Helen Mirren's latest project sees her starring alongside Jim Broadbent (Only Fools And Horses) in The Duke. This film explores the true story of the theft of a valuable portrait from the National Gallery in London.
Praising the "brilliant" young actors in the film, Helen Mirren said that they have helped the "old people" of the film (her and Broadbent) with their accents.
