While he respects the Time Lord franchise, the Notting Hill star has said that he has "no idea" where that rumour came from.

This comes after current Doctor Who star Jodie Whitaker had announced that she was stepping away from the role, having played the part since 2017.

Doctor Who: Who Will Take Over?

Rumours began to spread about who would take over from Whitaker, with names like Olly Alexander and Hugh Grant mentioned however, Grant has since taken to Twitter to rule himself out of the running.

"Nothing against Dr W but I'm not. No idea where the story came from", the actor tweeted.

Having ruled himself out of the running, Years & Years singer Olly Alexander did back his Its A Sin co-star Omar Douglas for the role.
