The legacy sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, starring Freddy Prinze Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt, has shared its official trailer.
Akin to the original 1997 thriller, this movie will follow a group of teenagers who are stalked by a mysterious stranger who knows their sinister secret. This time around, the teenagers get advice from people who have gone through a similar experience in the form of two survivors from the 1997 Southport Massacre, Julia James played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ray Bronson, played by Freddy Prinze Jr.
Prinze Jr and Hewitt reprise their roles for the fourth instalment of the franchise, alongside new additions, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Clinne, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who play the lost teenagers.
Speaking about the sequel, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson said that she looked back at the history of the horror movie for visual references.
"Visually, for me, it was about going back to my biggest touchstone for this movie, Jaws," she told Entertainment Weekly. "I was like, 'I want beautiful colors, beautiful setting, blue water, red blood.' For me, it's kind of like a throwback, and what I hope is that it feels like it's fresh in its nostalgia".
However, Robinson insisted that she is not trying to make a "carbon copy" of other horror blockbusters, adding: "I really wanted it to kind of stand on its own and have an identity visually. And I hope that that feels present in the film and makes people excited to see it".
Robinson also went on to reveal that along with Prinze Jr and Hewitt, she tried to recruit other previous stars for this project.
"I actually tried to get Maya Hawke, and we couldn't work it out with schedules", she said.
Referring to original star Sarah Michelle Geller, Robinson added: "I mean the big one, I tried relentlessly, and she's dead".
