According to reports, Sir Ian McKellen who is currently starring as John Falstaff in a production of Player Kings at the Noel Coward Theatre, was in a fight scene when he lost his footing and fell from the stage.

The audience was then evacuated from the premises, with the remainder of the performance cancelled, as staff rushed over to help McKellen who was writhing in agony.

Following this, a spokesperson for the theatre, assured the public that Ian McKellen is expected to make a "speedy and full recovery".

"Thank you to our audience and the general public for their well wishes following Ian's fall during this evening's performance of Player Kings", they said. "Following a scan, the brilliant NHS team have assured us that he will make a speedy and full recovery and Ian is in good spirits".

McKellen's representatives and the ambulance staff have yet to comment on the matter at the time of writing.

Player Kings is a production of Henry IV, parts one and two, adapted and directed by Robert Icke. It is due to be moved to Bristol Hippodrome in July, as well as being staged in Birmingham, Norwich, and Newcastle.
