The actor confirmed this news via social media, writing "Oi.....I'm back".
The Stringer Bell star will reprise this role from this hit detective series. He will also produce the spin off film.
The film which will be made by Netflix in association with the BBC, have added Andy Serkis and Cyntia Erivo to the cast.
Luther face two villains which will be played by Serkis and Erivo. Serkis will star as the main villain, while Erivo will portray a detective who doubles up as Luther's nemesis.
The script for this film has been written by Neil Cross, while it is is directed by Jamie Payne who also directed the show's final season.
