The former NSync star appeared in person to enter a new plea of driving while impaired, a lesser charge than driving while intoxicated, which he denied last month.

Appearing at Sag Harbour Village Court in the Hamptons, New York state, Justin Timberlake urged people to "call a friend or take an Uber" if they have been drinking after he entered his guilty plea.

In the end, Timberlake was issued with a $500 fine with a $260 surcharge, and 25 hours of community service at the non-profit of his choosing for the non-criminal traffic violation.

Afterwards, Justin Timberlake said: "even if you've had one drink, don't get behind the wheel of a car".

"There are so many alternatives. You can call a friend [or] take an Uber", the singer added.  "This is a mistake that I made, but I'm hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake. I know that I certainly have".

Justin Timberlake said during the proceedings that he grew up in a small town and appreciated the impact that his arrest had on Sag Harbour.

Timberlake was arrested on 18 June, after police had said that he did not stop at a stop sign and was unable to stay in his lane while driving along Long Island, New York state.
