T-Squared Social are set to convert the New Picture House Cinema into a luxury bar, which is to include sports simulators, darts, and duckpin bowling. They will also retain two cinema screens.

Tiger Woods had previously said that he and Timberlake thought of the idea, while playing golf at their development in the Bahamas.

The application for this sports bar was made by Nexus Luxury Collection, a real estate company which Woods and Timberlake are shareholders of.

Following this, Fife Council, which the Scottish town falls under, stated that it would  “protect and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area". This bar is expected to create around 40 to 50 jobs.

According to the planning documents, these plans will allow locals to “experience a broader range of cinema, dining and entertainment” and will be “crucial in helping to secure a cinema offering going forward".

The cinema's owners also stated in the documents that they would have to close the New Picture Hotel if there was not a change made to the site, as it “currently runs at under 10 per cent occupancy and is no longer a viable stand-alone cinema operation".

"continue the tradition"

The cinema originally opened in 1930. Some of its main features are set to remain, including the ceiling walls, and stage. The project's terms of approval have also said that work needs to begin on this project in the next three years.

“We are taking great care to preserve and celebrate the historic architecture and design of the theatre and continue its tradition of showcasing great films", Nexus' CEO and managing partner Christopher Anand said.

Justin Timberlake has been a regular guest at St Andrews, having played golf at the course in the past, including the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2019.
