Singer Katy Perry has crashed back down to earth, quite literally!!

The popstar returned to earth after taking part in the very first all-female space flight for more than 60 years. Perry was part of Blue Origin's New Shepard NS-31 which also included former NASA rocket scientists, Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, alongside TV presenter Gayle King, as well as journalist Lauren Sanchez.

This New Shepard Rocket took off passed 2.30pm from West Texas in the US. The trip, which lasted roughly 10 minutes, saw the crew reach speeds of more than 60 miles (100 km) above earth, as they crossed the Karman line, the boundary of space before they returned to earth.

Following a countdown from mission control, flames shot from the bottom of the craft, before successfully launching into the air.

Katy Perry who could be spotted in the rocket as it pulled away, cheered onboard, exclaiming "Oh my god". Her daughter Daisy watched on as safety crews rushed to the ship.

Following this, mission control announced "booster touchdown" as the ship descended onto the launch pad, as the astronauts cheered in a separate craft with a parachute attached.

"super connected to love"

As the astronauts returned, they were greeted by Blue Origin boss, Jeff Bezos, who congratulated Katy Perry, to which she replied "thank you".

Upon her return, Katy Perry said: "I feel super connected to love. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside you, how much love you have to give until the day you launch".

Adding that she plans to write a song about her whole experience, Katy Perry stated that: "This experience is second to being a mom".

Elsewhere, Kerianne Flynn called this trip, "the most incredible experience" of her life.

"This mom just went to space!", she added.

NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe declared that she "will never be the same" after the space flight and that she is "already ready to go back".

TV presenter Gayle King remarked: "I can't even believe what I saw. This was not a ride, this was a bona fide flight".

Admitting that she was previously afraid of flying, King added: "I am so proud of me right now... I will never forget the people who got us back safely".

Gayle King also revealed that Katy Perry sang some lyrics from the song, What A Wonderful World, as they returned to earth.
