In a recent statement shared with Rolling Stone, Madonna wrote, “I am tired of being taken advantage of and I mean business.”
Madonna first called out Lanez on Instagram after the artist’s 80s-inspired album ‘Alone At Prom’ dropped earlier this month. In the comments section of one of Lanez’s posts, Madonna wrote “Read your messages [for] illegal use of my song get into the groove”.
While the two songs do share a resemblance with a similar lead synth riff, it is still unclear as to whether Madonna and her team will be pursuing a copyright infringement suit against Lanez.
Lanez is also currently tied up in a legal battle over his July 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. The singer was ordered to stand trial before a jury on felony charges earlier this month. Lanez -whose real name is Daystar Peterson - is set to appear in court on January 13, 2022.
