British singer Max George has revealed that he thought he was "going to die" after he was taken to hospital with heart issues last month.

The Wanted singer was rushed to hospital after revealing that he had been suffering "issues" with his heart, having initially reported that he was "feeling really unwell", and was undergoing further tests.

It was later confirmed that George would require surgery for his heart. He also said that he had "a 2:1 block" in his heart, adding that it beats slower and more irregularly than it should.

He also revealed in a new interview that he was first admitted to hospital on December 13, which he called the "worst" day, which saw his blood pressure and heart rate drop.

George was eventually released on Christmas Day, having undergone heart surgery, which saw him having a pacemaker fitted.

Max George and his near death experience

In this interview, Max George stated that he was so convinced that he would not make it, that he took out his phone and started to write what to do with his assets.

“If I could go from being absolutely on top of the world to being told ‘the bottom part of your heart isn’t working’, I kept thinking in my head, ‘Well, what if the top half stops working overnight?'", he said.

He continued: “When you get told that you really realise what your responsibilities are. I’ve got a partner, Maisie [Smith], I’ve got a family".

Speaking about the first night he spent in hospital, Max George added: “It was quite close that night, it really felt like my neck was closing up and that’s when the sort of panic really kicked in. I felt like I was dying. It was the worst, I felt emotional".

When he found out that he was getting a pacemaker fitted, the singer said: “Now we were working towards something. I was absolutely buzzing".

Following his operation, he explained: “The first face I saw was Maisie’s and I remember that being really nice – like that was the first time I actually felt like a real person again, and I had a heart".

Back in 2022, George's bandmate from The Wanted, Tom Parker, passed away aged 33, having been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2020.
