Meryl Streep was forced to cut a giant hole into the fence of her LA home to escape the wildfires, her nephew has said.
These fires which have first broke on January 7, have led to the deaths of 29 people, and destroyed thousands of homes, forcing people to evacuate, with many celebrities affected, including Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Mark Hamill, James Wood, and Heidi Montag.
In a piece for the New York Magazine, Abe Streep, the nephew of Hollywood actress Meryl Streep, hailed the resilience of the LA residents, stating that it has helped them to rebuild their homes and lives, citing her aunt as the example.
“My aunt Meryl Streep received an order to evacuate on January 8, but when she tried to leave, she discovered that a large tree had fallen over in her driveway, blocking her only exit", Mr Streep wrote.
“Determined to make it out, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbour, cut a car-size hole in the fence she shared with the neighbours on the other side and drove through their yard to escape".
Thankfully, it has been reported that Meryl Streep's home in Pasadena, did not burn down, despite being close to where the fires took place.
The fires have also led to the delay of several high profile events, including the Oscar nominations ceremony. Other events delayed included the release of Meghan Markle's new documentary. More on this here.
