This could really prove to be a case of Mamma Mia...Here We Go Again!, with producer Judy Craymer previously confirming last year that a third movie was "in its earliest stages".
Meryl Streep had briefly appeared in the film's sequel in 2018 as Donna Sheridan, who was killed off.
However, speaking to reporters, the actress has said that she intends to meet Craymer "imminently" to discuss her return to the franchise.
“I don’t know how they’re going to do it. They have an idea", Streep said. “I haven’t heard it yet but it’s in [my diary] and I’m going to hear about it pretty soon. Of course I want to do it. I think folks love it".
Despite her character being killed off, Judy Craymer has reportedly said that she has found a way to include Donna Sheridan in the story. She believes that Meryl Streep could be persuaded to rejoin the cast.
“There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back — and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna", Craymer said. “I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there".
Craymer had also previously hinted that the new songs which featured in ABBA's virtual reality stage could also be used in this new film.
Other actors have also expressed an interest in featuring in this third film, including Amanda Seyfried, while ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus adding that he would be open to starring in a third instalment if the right idea came about.
