Australian soap opera, Neighbours, has been axed for a second time.

The show, which follows the lives of the residents of the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, had previously been cut in 2022, having failed to secure new funding.

However, it was revived by the streaming site, Amazon Freevee, and distribution & distribution multinational, Fremantle. More on this here.

"chapter closes"

Now, Neighbours has now been cancelled for a second time, with the soap confirming this in a statement shared on their social media account.

In this statement, the show announced that their final episode would air in December 2025, amid reports that Fremantle Media failed to secure a new deal with Amazon.

"Audiences all around the world have loved and embraced Neighbours for four decades and we are very proud of the huge success over the last two years including often appearing as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK and the show's first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Series in 2024", Executive Producer, Jason Herbison said.

"As this chapter closes, we appreciate and thank Amazon MGM Studios for all that they have done for Neighbours - bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally", he added. "We value how much the fans love Neighbours and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future".
