A new BBC programme is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of classic Wham! single, 'Last Christmas'.

The original video for this song which you can check out below (too early?), was filmed in Saas-Fee by Andrew Ridgeley and the late George Michael, and this programme titled Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, will see Ridgeley return to the ski-life and alpine chalet from the promo.

"wonderful and enduring"

On this new programme, Andrew Ridgeley called it a "a privilege, 40 years on, to be able to have this opportunity to celebrate Wham!'s wonderful and enduring musical homage to Christmas".

He continued: "Christmas was a special time of year for George and Christmas songs were a special type of song for him too and that was why he considered writing a Christmas classic one of the great achievements of his career".

"Only he will ever know quite what inspired him to such dizzying heights, but his songwriting genius led him to distil the quintessential essence of Christmas into a song whose breadth of appeal spans the generations", he added.  "Revisiting Saas-Fee, four decades on, with some of the closest friends of my youth was a very special experience and one which (sic) I know Yog (Michael's nickname) would have loved to have shared in".

Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, will also bring together artists, producers, and music experts to share the story of how Last Christmas was created, as well as its everlasting appeal worldwide.

The programme will also interview the mayor of Saas-Fee, who had served as Wham!'s driver during the original shoot.

Shirlie Kemp and Pepsi DeMacque-Crockett who served as backing singers for Wham!, will also be interviewed. The pair went on to form their own double act, Pepsi and Shirlie.

Other celebrities Mary J Blidge, Sam Smith, Bob Geldof and Neil Tennant will share their thoughts on the song's themes of unrequited love and loss.

It will also include archived radio and television footage of the late George Michael, who sadly passed away in December 2016. Fans will also be able to hear Michael performing the classic festive hit at London's Wembley Arena in December 2006.

Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, was produced in association with Ridgeley and George Michael Entertainment, who manage the late singer's Estate.

The show will air in December, with an exact date yet to be confirmed.
