Former English footballer and pundit Merson was announced along with DIY television star Nick Knowles and Olympic gold medal winning hockey player Sam Quek.
Ahead of this year's show, Merson who has been outspoken about his struggles with drugs, alcohol, gambling and depression, said "Here's hoping my two left feet can learn some moves and you never know, maybe I'll be taking home the glitterball trophy".
Nick Knowles who is best known for presenting DIY SOS, has said that he was "so so excited" and "dancing live on TV will be a whole new adventure".
Sam Quek who was part in Great Britain's gold medal winning hockey side at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, was also confirmed as a contestant taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2024.
Quek has also been a team captain on A Question Of Sport, as well as co-hosting the opening ceremony of last year's Eurovision Song Contest at her hometown in Liverpool.
"I'm chuffed to be a part of this legendary show and quickstep into the shoes of a performer. It feels absolutely surreal but I'm ready for every bit of the adventure", she said.

The competition which starts next month, will also include contestants such as EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, Morning Live doctor Punam Krishan, Gladiator and Olympian Montell Douglas, Miranda actress Sarah Hadland, and singer Shayne Ward.
Other names include JLS star JB Gill, singer Toyah Wilcox, reality TV star Pete Wicks, Love Island's Tasha Ghouri, Go Compare opera singer Wynne Evans.
Comedian Chris McCausland was also confirmed as a contestant, becoming the first blind contestant to feature on Strictly Come Dancing.
