Over 1,000 Dolly Parton Lookalikes To Descend On Kerry Town This Weekend

In a bid to break the record for most people dressed as the country singer in one gathering, 1,500 lookalikes are to gather around Listowel, co Kerry to raise money for two of the Kingdom county's cancer charities.

With the event close to selling out, the Dolly Day event could soon become an annual event, according to committee chairperson Cora O'Brien.

“We’re getting close to selling out all tickets to the event, which means we could have 1,500 Dollys taking part", O'Brien said. “The minimum number we need to successfully set a new world record is 250, so we’re absolutely thrilled with the response to this".

Anyone participating in this event must adhere to the strict rulings, which state that particpants must look “instantly recognisable” as Dolly Parton, wearing an outfit which replicates something the singer has worn in public.

It was also confirmed that six approved outfits by Eventbrite, which are made of easily accessible clothing, have been chosen by event organisers for participants to wear.

“There’s going to be three independent adjudicators here, who’ll be overseeing the counting process", O'Brien added. “Everyone who takes part will have photos taken of them, which will then be sent to Guinness who’ll make a decision on whether they were a good enough lookalike".

“After the event, it could take anything from six to 12 weeks for the record to be ratified".

Taking place tomorrow (24 June), Dolly Day will be held in Listowel's Frank Sheehy Park.
