This monologue saw the host speak to people of Israel and Palestine, and deliver an emotional speech, where he also referred to his own experiences of Northern Ireland, while speaking about the tragic death of Kim Damti at a the Israeli music festival from Hamas operatives.
“Before we go, I’d just like to say that tonight so many of us here all on The Late Late Show want to send our love to the family of Kim Damti and to all of the families who’s lives this week have been ripped apart in Israel and Palestine", Kielty said. “There are no words that will even touch the sides on the pain and the ongoing horror that’s been felt by so many tonight".
Kielty continued, “But as someone who grew up during a conflict where the rights and wrongs of politics were always at large, one common truth was that the hurt and the pain on both sides was sadly the same".
“We all share something, we just didn’t realise it at the time. There were days when we thought it would never end. Tonight there are many parents and children in Israel and in Gaza who also think that this will never end and are praying for a miracle to make it stop.
“In the midst of despair, miracles are hard to believe in, but it’s worth remembering that we are currently living our own miracle on this island, because we are living in peace.
“For all those in Israel and Palestine tonight, it might not seem like it, but there’s always hope and we hope that your miracle comes soon".
This speech left many viewers in tears, with several praising Kielty. One viewer called it a "powerful ending".
Another person commented, “A mic drop moment by Patrick Kielty as he closed tonight's #LateLateShow, holding out hope for a just peace in Israel and Palestine. Kielty is way more than a comedian, a broadcaster or a chat show host. This is thought leadership".
Another added, “Stop what you're doing & watch this. A powerful ending that had me in tears".
"Completely heart breaking. I think Patrick's words were so moving and so genuine", another remarked.
Other comments included, “Those were very moving words by Patrick at the end. It's heart-breaking for all concerned".
“Powerful and genuine statement from @PatricKielty closing out the #LateLateShow praying for the same miracle for Israel and Palestine".
