Piers Morgan returned to Good Morning Britain for the first time in almost four years, after leaving the show over his controversial comments about Meghan Markle.

In March 2021, the broadcaster walked off after saying that he did not believe claims made by the Duchess of Sussex during her and Prince Harry's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. Morgan's abrupt exit was the most complained-about show in Ofcom history.

"No, I don't want a hug"

On the show, Piers Morgan rejoined former colleagues Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, where he spoke about his own experiences with US President Donald Trump.

During his interview, Morgan remarked: "Hang on, are we just going to ignore the fact I haven’t been here for 1,453 days?".

The presenter than offered to hug Reid, which she initially declined, saying: "No, I don’t want a hug".

After being encouraged by Morgan, the pair embraced, before former MP, Balls hugged Morgan, "We don’t mind hugging". Ed Balls did assure Morgan that Reid did not hug him either, to which Reid said: "No, I don’t do hugs, as you know".

Piers Morgan then quipped that Reid had "moved on so fast" to a new co presenter. To this, Susanna Reid replied: "I’ve got a couple of new husbands now".

"locked horns"

Beginning the interview in earnest, Susanna Reid said to Piers Morgan: "I’ve locked horns with you, Piers Morgan, on many occasions, but you have locked horns with President Trump".

At this point, Piers Morgan revealed that he had a phone call with Mr Trump prior to his heated clash with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, saying that the US President was in an "upbeat mood" on this call, which saw them chat about various topics, including Ukraine.

"I’ve had screaming matches with him, literally, and then an hour later, we’re laughing and joking, doing a fun interview …", Piers Morgan said. "So I always think with him, focus on what he does, not what he says, or the general drama and chaos".

"And secondly, understand that this is almost uniquely in modern times, a Republican president in America who wants peace, not war", he added.

the "enemy"

The end of the interview saw Reid and Morgan clash after the latter had advised Ed Balls to stop wearing ties, stating that they are the "enemy" in the YouTube area.

"Piers, as you know, I always do what the editor wants", Balls said.

Morgan replied: "Or what Susanna tells you to do, bad for her brand if you take the tie off".

Reid insisted that it had "nothing" to do with her and pointed out the exit to him, saying: "There’s a door there. I’m not sure if you recognise it Piers?".
