The Friends star died aged 54 at his home in LA last October. He had always been open about his battle with substance abuse and addiction, even setting up a sober living facility for men suffering with similar problems.

Now, the LA Police Department have confirmed that they are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration on an "open investigation" regarding the circumstances surrounding Matthew Perry's death last year.

A medical examiner has confirmed that the actor's death came from the effects of ketamine. The police have added that they will look at how Perry managed to obtain this general anaesthetic.

Last December, the LA Police Department of Medical Examiner had ruled that Matthew Perry died from "acute effects of ketamine" and said the "manner of death is accident".

The report also stated that Perry was receiving  "ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety", with his last known treatment taking place around 10 days before his death. It also said that the actor had been "reportedly clean for 19 months".

While the report was unable to say the "exact method of intake" in Perry's case, they did add: "The ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy".

Matthew Perry was known for his role as the sarcastic Chandler Bing in the much loved US sitcom Friends from 1994 to 2004. He was also honoured during the in memoriam segment at the Bafta TV Awards earlier this month, as well as January's Emmy Awards.
