Authorities have said that an update regarding the investigation into the deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa is currently ongoing.
The couple, along with their dog, were found dead at their home in New Mexico, with police saying that they found no evidence of foul play.
Hackman and Arakwa's bodies were found in separate rooms at around 1.45pm local time on Wednesday, according to the Santa Fe County sheriff's office had said. More on this here.
Preliminary findings have said that Hackman and Arakawa suffered "no external trauma". According to an update statement, post mortem examinations were carried out, with initial findings noting "no external trauma to either individual".
A search warrant was applied for by the sheriff's office, who told a judge that the deaths were "suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation".
The warrant stated that gas lines were tested in and around the house, and while no problems were found, a detective did explain that people exposed to gas leaks or carbon monoxide may not show signs of poisoning.
The search warrant application also went on to state that the bodies were discovered by the maintenance worker, who found the front door ajar. While there were no signs of forced entry, there were no obvious signs of a gas leak. It also reported that Mr Hackman was found in the kitchen, with Ms Arakawa and the dog found in the bathroom. The dog was in a crate.
The report also said that two other dogs were found alive, and able to move freely around the house.
The police have also said that official results of the post mortem examinations and toxicology reports are pending, with an official cause of death yet to be announced.
Reeling from their loss, Gene Hackman's daughters Elizabeth and Leslie, along with granddaughter Annie, have said that they will "sorely" miss the late actor, adding that they are "devastated by the loss".
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy", a statement to the PA news agency said.
"He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss".
