Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon has confirmed the identity of the actress who will play a young Elle Woods in a prequel series of the hit comedy.
Witherspoon, who starred as the main character in the comedy in 2001 and 2003, will serve as an executive producer on this series, coming to Prime Video. Her company, Hello Sunshine, will produce this upcoming series, which is now part of Candle Meida, and has also been responsible for shows such as Daisy Jones And The Six.
Actress Lexi Minetree will star as the young Elle Woods, who could be seen receiving feedback from Witherspoon following her audition for the role.
In a video shared on Instagram, Reese Witherspoon identifies Lex Minetree as the actress who will take on the role of a young Elle Woods in the prequel series.
"I wanted to say your audition tape was amazing, as we talked about, we had to make a really hard decision the other day, and we wanted to tell you in person because you've just worked really hard", Witherspoon can be heard saying. "And we just wanted to tell you that you don’t have to audition any more because you got the part, you’re Elle Woods".
When she realised she got the part, an emotional Minetree called her mother to tell her the good news.
"Allow me to introduce you to the new Elle Woods!", the caption read on social media. "After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself!".
The prequel, which is titled Elle, sees the titular sorority girl Elle gain admittance to Harvard Law School, in order to pursuit her boyfriend, who has broken up with her.
As it happens, Elle discovers she is more than just a pretty face, and proves to have the potential to be a highly competent lawyer.
