Elle Woods may have attended Harvard Law School in 'Legally Blonde', but Reese Witherspoon definitely has not. Despite this she was chosen to be the foreman during jury duty because of her alleged experience.

On 'The Graham Norton Show', the 48 year old recalled a hilarious story about being called for jury duty years after the release of the 2001 film 'Legally Blonde'.

“Listen, I did not want to do jury duty. But I remember it was probably seven years after 'Legally Blonde', I got called for jury duty and it was in Beverly Hills. I thought, ‘Surely they’re not gonna pick me.’ They picked me for a long trial, y’all. It was probably two weeks.” she said.

Her ‘You're Cordially Invited’ co-star Will Farrell quipped back saying that a two week trial was not “that long.”

“It was two solid weeks, every day going in.” Witherspoon replied.

The case was a dog-bite incident where a person was suing a dog-owner after being bitten by their dog during a dog fight.

"I definitely did not go to law school, I didn’t finish college!"

“And then we went to deliberation and so at the very end they say, ‘OK, well somebody in this group has to be the foreman,’” Witherspoon explained. “And they all unanimously are like, ‘Her.’ Me!”

The other jurors said she was chosen because she “went to law school.”

Seeing that they had confused her with the character of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Witherspoon had to clarify her education: “I was like, ‘Y’all this is really upsetting. I definitely did not go to law school, I didn’t finish college.’ I played a lawyer in a movie once but they fully made me the foreman and I started realizing … people don’t know much about the law.”

"I started realizing … people don’t know much about the law.”

When asked whether the dog was found innocent or guilty Witherspoon said “Here's the deal, this other lady put her hand in the dog fight…she put her hand, ding-dong, right in the middle of a dog fight and now she's suing this other lady. The lady’s like ‘you put your hand in a dog-fight!’”

“I've always said, first rule, see a dog fight? Put your hand in there!” Farrell joked

Witherspoon had two pieces of advice for everyone after her jury duty experience: attend your jury duty because “bad stuff goes down in there” and don’t “put your hand in a dog fight.”

Amazon Prime Video has announced a prequel series to 2001’s 'Legally Blonde'. Witherspoon will executive produce via her Hello Sunshine banner along with series creator and showrunner Laura Kittrell, Hello Sunshine’s Lauren Neustadter and Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt, producer of the Legally Blonde films.
