Rory McIlroy has broken his silence on his shock divorce announcement and subsequent U-turn in a new Netflix show.
Last May, the Northern Irish golfer filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll, before calling off proceedings in a filling in Palm Beach County, Florida, a month later; calling it a "new beginning" for his family.
"Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning", McIlroy said in a statement. McIlroy and Stoll have been married since 2017, and share four year old daughter, Poppy, who was born in September 2020. More on this here.
In the latest series of Netflix show, Full Swing, Rory McIlroy addressed his divorce U-turn, and all the rumours that came with it.
Such rumours included that he was allegedly dating reporter, Amanda Balionis during his golf tour last year. This rumour was never confirmed nor addressed.
"There's parts of my life that I like to keep as private as possible. Unfortunately, in this line of work that isn't always possible", McIlroy said, while speaking on the Netflix show to fellow golfer, Martin Kaymer. "Thankfully, everything has worked out for the best and we're happy and moving forward and I can't wait for what lies ahead".
Elsewhere, Kaymer and McIlroy also spoke about Eric's dislike of the sun.
"If it was up to her she wouldn't move to England straight away but she definitely wants to spend more time there", McIlroy said. To which Kaymer replied: "I saw her at a Starbucks once and she said: "I really don't like the sun." I said, "Your state's called the Sunshine State, right?".
