Ryan Gosling is to lead a new Star Wars film.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), the title of this movie has also been revealed, Star Wars: Starfighter, and is to be released on 7 May 2027. It was also confirmed that this would be a "standalone story", with the film not following the main storyline of the Skywalker family or Daisy Riley starring sequels.

Levy said that this movie is "not a prequel, not sequel, it’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet".

"The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters", Ryan Gosling stated. "It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn".

Ryan Gosling was speaking at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan, which showed his childhood Star War bedsheets on screen, where he added: "you can see from the picture, I guess I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film".

"And it’s probably framed my idea of what a movie even was".

Last April, Ryan Gosling who played Ken in the Greta Gerwig directed Barbie, host an episode of Saturday Night Live, where he was joined in the opening monologue by Emily Blunt, who played Kitty in Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan. More on this story here.
