The Oscar subsequently went to Martin Landau for his role as Ed Wood instead. However, speaking to The Times recently, Jackson who played Jules Winnfield in the 1994 film, said that he “should have won that one”.

Jackson also claimed that black actors only tend to triumph at the Academy Awards “for doing despicable s*** on screen”.

“I guess Black folk usually win for doing despicable s**** on screen", Jackson stated. “Like Denzel [Washington] for being a horrible cop in Training Day. All the great stuff he did in uplifting roles like Malcolm X? No – we’ll give it to this motherf*****".

Pulp Fiction remains Samuel L Jackson's only film where he earned an Oscar nomination for. He is yet to win the award.

“So maybe I should have won one", he feels. “But Oscars don’t move the comma on your cheque — it’s about getting asses in seats and I’ve done a good job of doing that".

Jackson also feels that he should have earned an Oscar nomination for his role in Jungle Fever, directed by Spike Lee. Jack Palance won the award that year.

In the same interview, the Coach Carter star also responded to Joe Rogan's use of the N word in his much malinged podcast.

After rolling his eyes, he said, “He is saying nobody understood the context when he said it".

"But he shouldn’t have said it. It’s not the context, dude – it’s that he was comfortable doing it. Say you’re sorry because you want to keep your money, but you were having fun and you say you did it because it was entertaining".
