The Kildare native is to feature alongside 2018 Golden Globe winner Saoirse Ronan for this Sci-Fi thriller. The pair are to star as a married couple for the upcoming film adaption of the Iain Reid science fiction novel of the same name.
The film explores the young married couple Junior (Paul Mescal), and Hen (Saoirse Ronan) who live a solitary life on the farm in the near future where environmental decay is damaging the planet.
The couple are then informed by a stranger named Terrence (Lakeith Standfield) that Junior has been chosen to travel to a large experimental space station orbiting Earth.
However, Hen will not have to worry about missing her husband, as arrangements have been made to ensure that she will never be lonely.
Filming is expected to begin in Austrailia in January 2022.
The film is to be directed by Gareth Davis. Davis told Deadline that it was the love story caught which his eye when reading the film's script.
He said that this film will teach us a lesson in what is really important in life. He added that it will teach us to take care of our planet which is precious.
"The love story just broke my heart", he said. "This story of self-determination, fighting for the things that are most precious in our lives, and reminding audiences that this time we have here is precious and the way we treat each other is the way we need to be treating the planet".
Davis continued, "I’ve been on the hunt to do something in sci-fi, it was always on my bucket list, and also to find material I could make an actor’s piece with a Cassavetian level of performance".
"I read Foe and could not put it down", he added. "It’s incredibly suspenseful, very moving and dealt with sci-fi in a most grounded way that spoke to where we are heading as a society, with a lot of the questions we all have, explored in a profound way".
