In an interview with Capital FM the ‘Drop it Like Its Hot’ artist sits down with DJ Jordan North for some “High tea”.
When asked what Snoop was planning to do during his brief trip to England he mentioned that he wanted “to go by the [Buckingham] palace…hopefully I can get in”
The interviewer mentions that the future king prince William was actually said to be a big Snoop Dogg fan .
“Well the Queen was a fan too. Rest in peace to the Queen, that was my girl,” Snoop smiles. “So, just may want to go up [to the palace] and, you know, see what you do, if they'll let me in or not.”
“I’m pretty sure you could go to the palace. You’re Snoop Dogg, you can do anything you want,” North replied. “They going to let me in?” he asked.
“Yeah, they'll be fine, I can sort that out.” North quipped back.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem that they did let the California rapper in.
A spokesperson for the palace said that, as far as they were aware, Mr D. O. Double G. did not pay a visit to the royal family's residence, and did not meet with the king.
The legendary rapper, now turned Olympic commentator, has long spoken of his fondness for Britain's longest reigning monarch.
In 1994, Snoop found himself on the front page of British tabloids calling for the rapper to be deported from the country as he was charged with the murder of a man in LA back in 1993.
Snoop claims that it was the Queen of England who helped to prevent his deportation. His charges were later dropped in 1996.
“When they tried to kick me out of England, the Queen made a comment that her grandbabies loved Snoop Doggy Dogg, and he had done no wrong in the UK, so she gave me permission to be here,” he told The Guardian in 2015.
“Those grandbabies grew up to be Prince William and Harry, so I had influence on them, and they had influence on their grandmother, which enabled me to get into this beautiful country,” he added. “They love my music, and it is what it is. There’s a mutual love and respect.”
In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid in 2022 Snoop imagined the scenario where Elizabeth's grandchildren begged her to save him from deportation.
“You think they weren’t there, saying, ‘Grandma, please let him in, grandma. He’s ok. We love his music.’”
“‘You know Harry,” Snoop imagined her replying, “I’ll let him in for you. He’s not so bad after all and he’s quite cute.’ The Queen, that’s my gal.”
Snoop would repost this interview in memory of the Queen after the news of her passing in September of 2022.
Snoop Dogg is now serving as a special US correspondent for NBC during their coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He recently went swimming with famous athlete Michael Phelps in a TV segment for the American broadcaster.
