Spencer Matthews To Run 30 Marathons In 30 Days In Scorching Desert

Spencer Matthews has confirmed plans to run 30 marathons in 30 days in the scorching heat of the Jordanian desert.

Former reality TV star Matthews who is now an athlete, entrepreneur and podcaster, is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record through the scorching temperatures of the Jordanian Desert. He has previously completed three ultramarathons in the Amazon Rainforest, and the Arctic.

Matthews who is married to Irish model and TV presenter Vogue Williams, has also participated in the Marathon des Sable, also known as the "toughest footrace on Earth", which is a 250KM ultramarathon in the Sahara Desert, running for seven days.

Now, Spencer Matthews is to take part in the equivalent of five of those, back to back, running 786 miles completely on sand, and in temperatures likely to range in the mid-forties. This endeavour will begin near the Wadi Rum, located on the edge of the Arabian Desert, finishing near the Dead Sea.

For these marathons, Spencer Matthews must stay on sand, a layer of sand over a field of grass would not qualify for instance. All marathons must be finished within 6 hours.

"I think I will come out of this quite different", Matthews said.

Speaking about his inspirations, Spencer Matthews pointed to Dan Lawson, who ran the Brighton Marathon eight times back in 2012. Other names included Pete Kostelnick who also ran the US by foot, and Camille Herron who ran 900 km in 6 days recently.
