British actor Stephen Graham has said that he was left in tears after receiving a message from Bruce Springsteen, who praised Graham for his performance in Deliver Me From Nowhere.

Stephen Graham who has also received worldwide praise for his work on the Netflix limited series, Adolescence, stars in the upcoming Springsteen biopic, which sees actor Jeremy Allen White portray a young Springsteen, as we explore the making of the Boss' 1982 album, 'Nebraska'.

The film will see Stephen Graham play Douglas 'Dutch' Springsteen, Bruce's late father.

"the most gorgeous text"

In a recent interview with Soundtracking's Edith Bowman, Stephen Graham revealed that he received “the most gorgeous texts I’ve ever had in my life” from Springsteen for his performance in the biopic.

Graham went on to state that he played his dad during the 1980s, which required wearing prosthetics that he had to also rip off on one occasion before getting into a fight.

Calling Springsteen's message, "better than any award" he had ever won, Graham said: “I’m racing to get to the airport, and I got this text, and it was so beautiful. It just said: ‘Better than any award that I could ever receive in my life’. He’s an icon. He’s a hero".

He continued: “He’s a working-class hero. He’s an icon to thousands, to millions. And his text just said, ‘Thank you so much. You know, my father passed away a while ago and I felt like I saw him today and thank you for giving me that memory".

“I was crying reading the text, do you know what I mean? Oh mate, it was beautiful. You couldn’t ask for anything more, you know, to share that with someone was gorgeous. He’s a lovely man".

Elsewhere, Stephen Graham also claimed that Springsteen likes the 2006 film, This Is England, which he starred in, while they also chatted about the singer's book, Born To Run, where he spoke about his difficult relationship he had with his father.

“He loved me but he couldn’t stand me. He felt we competed for my mother’s affections", Springsteen wrote in his memoir.

Stephen Graham has received praise worldwide for his work on the much talked about Netflix drama, Adolescence, which centres around a 13 year old school boy, arrested for murdering a classmate. The show has addressed issues including social media and masculinity, with Tánaiste Simon Harris calling for the series to be available for “compulsory viewing in every secondary school in Ireland”.
